fNIRS

Near-infrared (NIR) optical imaging technology is a hot brain imaging technology in cognitive neuroscience research. Compared with fMRI technology, this method has the advantages of strong head disturbance resistance ability, high sampling rate and portability, high suitability for brain imaging collection in children, patients, and other special groups. The laboratory is equipped with more than ten NIR systems, including Hitachi ETG-4000 NIR system, Shimadzu Labnirs NIR system and NirxSport portable NIR system. Functional near-infrared optical imaging systems utilize the absorption and scattering relationships between Oxygenate hemoglobin (DEoxy-Hb) and Oxygenate hemoglobin (OXy-Hb) in brain tissues through near-infrared light waves at specific wavelengths. The concentration changes of DEOXY-Hb and OXY-Hb in brain tissues under specific conditions were investigated to indirectly reflect the activity of neurons and thus establish a connection between specific behavioral characteristics and brain functions. The near-infrared imaging system can simultaneously cover two to three functional systems of the cortex, with a sampling rate of 0.1 seconds and a spatial resolution of 2 to 3cm. In addition, it is compatible with other brain imaging systems and can be measured simultaneously with fMRI, EEG/ERP, TMS and other technologies. In short, fNIRS technology is an indispensable part of our laboratory technology system and will play an irreplaceable role in cognitive neuroscience research, especially in the research fields of cognitive neurodevelopment. It is mainly used in the research of language cognition, mathematical cognition, and social cognition. In addition, based on the existing equipment, the laboratory also developed a multi-person interactive simultaneous acquisition near infrared system.
