内容简介:Despite advances in hearing aid technology, older adults continue struggling to hear, especially in background noise. The typical audiological assessment evaluates peripheral hearing function but does not take into account the temporal processing deficits experienced by older adults (Gordon-Salant & Fitzgibbons, 1993). The auditory brainstem response to complex sounds (cABR) represents speech stimuli with sub millisecond precision, has good reliability, and is affected by training (Skoe & Kraus, 2010). It may therefore provide an objective clinical measure of temporal processing and training outcomes. In this presentation, I will review a series of studies that used the cABR to assess aging effects, speech-in-noise performance, and training benefits.
